At the bench

Kia ora, I am Rachel and welcome to my online store.

I love making and the potential it has in producing treasured items for years to come.

My hope is to create jewellery that draws you in to hold it, like an amulet or a touchstone. It feels protective, comforting and helps the wearer feel more themselves.

About Me

Born and bred in Okato, Taranaki, making things has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

After leaving school I studied jewellery techniques at Manukau Institute of Technology in Auckland NZ. Once I finished my studies in 2001, I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in exhibitions, sell my work in NZ galleries and feature in a few magazines; North and South, Home and Garden, Urbis and Jewellers Trade.

Later on I went travelling and based myself in the UK for six years where I worked as a bench jeweller and tutor for an independent jewellery store. Also, up-skilling in jewellery workshop classes here in NZ and in the UK.

The jewellery I have made in this time has varied greatly. From Maori/Pacific inspired pieces, organic shapes and natural materials to traditional silver/gold-smithing, gem setting and repairs.

Thank you for looking.

I think we are all creative: creating objects, atmospheres, movements, growth and the mind used as a tool to construct our thoughts and emotions into sensory forms.

I like to let the material I work with speak for itself whilst adding my own ideas and interpretations; an energy exchange between the materials and the maker. I hope that what I produce will resonate out and speak to someone.
