This pendant is carved from a single piece of bone to read like a section of a riverbed: It is a creation in honour of one of Taranaki’s rivers, Hangatahua Te Awa; ‘the beautiful river’. Certainly also a representation of the many wild New Zealand rivers, translated into a tactile wearable pendant.
Since it's carved by hand, the exact arrangement and depth of the pebbles is particular to this piece.
It hangs from a 90cm waxed polyester cord, plaited and adjustable, so it can sit high at the collarbone or lower depending on preference.
